Newsletters
So I’m going to start this newsletter out a bit different and get straight to the painting.
24in X 18in Acrylic on Canvas June 2026
Feelings of the southwest reflecting against a grey-scale figure. With her new “perspective” laying down, the challenge for me was to paint a meaningful landscape, using the limited space available.
It had to be deep, vast, rugged and beautiful. It’s the time of year when the Yucca is in full bloom. We can feel the heat from the sand even as the sky begins to silhouette the landscape. This could be a memory, where she’s at, or lenses which she views the world. This piece is calming and beautiful to admire.
We are keeping the momentum going with the feelings of déjà vu, familiarity, and whatever that feeling is that you get when you look back at old photos or souvenirs. Not so much the reminiscing or nostalgia but more that sensation of calm. The exhale in the sigh, the gut feeling rather than a deep thought. Whatever that word is, that’s the feeling I’m going for with my work. Whether it is my visual, fire, figure or landscape collections.
For me, painting is the easy part of it all. It’s the finishing touches that start to feel like work. Painting borders, adding hardware to hang, spray treating, creation and editing of web pages, and then social media. I don’t particularly enjoy the effort that is required for social media but man, you have to have one. More people ask if I have an instagram for my art rather than a website! I don’t have it in me to become an influencer or any desire, but I can put in some effort and change out of my Tabasco dribbled on shirt to take a picture with my art. Feels like work.
Speaking of work and June, it’s that time of year when life becomes a bit of a haze with the fire season in full swing. Most of my time is spent away from home. When I am home, it is usually only to sleep and eat. So naturally I decided it was a good time to re-grout the tile in our bathroom! I think one of my books was saying something about people who are too busy and a cluttered mind or unprocessed emotions? Something like that.
Speaking of books, Dungeon Crawler Carl book 6 is complete. Again, just a great time. I also revisited The Way of Zen by Alan Watts. This is one of my favorites to come back to, especially when this time of year revolves around preplanning, hypotheticals, what ifs, timelines and how I fit into it all. Just a lot of left hemisphere activity. For me it creates internal chatter. and it becomes easy to live inside my head instead of the present. So The Way of Zen is a great reconnect and encouragement to sit and listen. The eternal present, because all there is, is right now.
In a couple days, (July 4th and 5th) I will be presenting my work in Colorado Springs at the BroadmoorTraditions Fine Art Festival. All the info can be found here. So if your plan is to see art during the celebration, come say hi and see what 4ft of color feels like in person.
Busy on the 4th of July?
That’s ok! Because I have another show July 25th and 26th in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Contemporary Hispanic Marketmore info) highlights Hispanic Artists from New Mexico in one of America’s art meccas.
A shorter newsletter than usual, mostly because not too much has happened for June. Just how it goes this time of year. But as always, thanks for hanging in there! Until next month!
