Gaia is the Greek goddess of nature and the creator of life. To me, that sounds like Mother Nature.
This was one of my earliest pieces that I can say I was proud of. I am still proud of her. She is a strong woman and from her a tree is sprouting. Or, is she turning into the tree? Either way they are the same and one. I did not want the color to be limited to just the leaves of the tree and separate her from it, so a strand of hair is also lightly colored with the same magenta color.
The black and white are complimented well by the magenta color bringing the two together and complete in the image.
