October 2025

The month of October was filled with a lot of color, completed paintings, online art sale, some awesome weather, prescribed burning, a long weekend in Seattle, friends, wood hauling for the winter and more books.Thank you to everyone who placed an art order during this sale! I will be working to start processing orders this week and begin production Monday 11/3. So, if by chance you missed the Halloween cut off, there is still a last minute chance to order while I organize!

One of the books was an interesting overview about communication taking into account personalities, body language, non verbals, verbals and a look in the mirror to start. Before we can begin to understand others we need to understand ourselves. How do I communicate when my hotshot ego gets bruised? I think it’s helped me become more patient with others. Understanding that even simple communication can be difficult and complicated but how important it is. Good things that carry over to all interpersonal interactions.

The second book was a beautiful short work, written from the perspective of astronauts and cosmonauts in the international space station looking back at earth. 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets in twenty four hours, continents and countries that blend into each other reminding us that we are all in this together. How in comparison to the timeline and expanse of the universe, our existence means nothing, but yet it is everything. This was one of those books that was just a beautiful work of literature and I can’t wait to read it again, when I do.

Newest work

This work is titled “Falling”, for obvious reasons, is a 12in X 24in Acrylic on Canvas.

Falling is piece number 5 in my visuals collection. Falling is a work of art that combines a black and white model and a colorful landscape reflected in her glasses. This beautiful piece was created as the leaves were changing and the weather getting cooler.

The vibrant fall colors are complemented by the black and white urban background. The model is looking up as if she is walking under the leaves, but based on the black and white environment of her background, we know this is not where she is. Maybe it is where she wants to be, a memory, or the lense in which she views life.

I used the black and white of the model and the background to compliment the vibrant fall colors in her glasses. This contrast draws the initial attention to the colors of the leaves but allows the flow of her windblown hair and her soft features to be admired. This work is beautiful no matter the time of year. We can all relate to making the best of our situation and where we are.

Looking into the future.

I don’t know how I got so fortunate to have the opportunities that come my way. This will be my 4th time working with a group of friends and other Wildland Firefighters  volunteering in Baja California, Mexico to teach Wildland Fire Chainsaw Operations. This course is all volunteer. My experience in Mexico has opened many doors with the International Programs branch of my agency to go and also work in Brazil, Panama and Mozambique teaching/training their fire fighters. I feel just like Forrest Gump, where I’ve been too lucky for my IQ.

Besides that, November will be filled with more painting, applying to art shows in the spring, turkey and cozy nights by the fireplace. As always, thanks again for your time!
