Newsletter #3
Happy Newsletter Day!
After December’s novel, this newsletter will be a short one. But honestly January came and went. I’m still writing 2024 on all my important documents. January was filled with travel, a holiday/travel bug and unfortunately the loss of a friend. There is always a lot to think about after any one of these. Like, what am I doing with my life not living on a beach teaching scuba or surfing? Or, once I recover, I promise I’m going to align my Chakras and eat more leafy greens. Or, to not put off the phone calls because all we have are moments and that each day really needs to be appreciated.
Here’s what’s happening.
This last month, Feats of Clay Galley in Aztec, NM approached me about doing a feature. The feature would be for a month, and we are currently in the process of reviewing work and discussing the gallery’s upcoming agenda. I’m very excited to start displaying more work in person and to begin learning this side of the process.
Looking to get my work out into the open more, I am hoping to attend the 31st Durango autumn Art Festival in Durango, CO this September. There is a jury panel that determines which artists are accepted to participate, so I am hoping. It’s great getting to show art in person. The colors always look way better and seeing it to scale always adds to the appreciation. The best way to enjoy art is in person. That’s why I think we like seeing bands live, why a photo never quite does it justice, or why the hard copy always feels better than the digital. As an artist I feel obligated to share my originals as much as possible in the wild.
Current project.
This latest piece was inspired from a photo of a friend. I want to say thank you for taking such a great photo and thank you for letting me make a worse version! After some time, doom scrolling, I finally found what I was looking for. Inspiration. The lighting, the emotion, the folds and wrinkles in the jacket, and symmetry was spot on for me. Figured I’d give it a try and make it my own.
The piece is 16”X 20”. The original photo is in color, but I wanted to stick with my theme of black and white and build all the shapes with this contrast. I have a couple ideas for the background and how to separate the two while complimenting each other. I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself because this painting has a very long way to go. Most of the time my plans change and it’s usually for the better. I am excited to put time into good sessions and see what comes from it.
Last bit for the newsletter.
To continue sharing my work, I will be opening a window to accept orders of all work in my gallery (https://pmtzart.com/art-gallery/ ). This will begin Saturday March 1st and last until Tuesday March 31st. During this time, I will be accepting orders for prints of original work and accepting inquiries about original artworks. (https://pmtzart.com/order-info/).
I really enjoy the engagement so thank you for the feedback, responses, ideas, support and shoutouts!
Until next month, Chao!
