February 2025 Newsletter

Another month has come and gone, and for some reason this one felt shorter than the rest (buh-dum). February hasn’t seemed to slow down very much. I’m typically an easy going person and I like my routines with little to no interruptions to them. When I’m prepared for life to be hectic, such as traveling or the nature of my work, that’s alright. But, when chaos seems to be with me always, I’m not a fan. February kept the unexpected coming. Last minute cancellation of a work trip to Panama 2 days prior to travel immediately followed by a motor vehicle accident, combined with good, great and excellent news in between or on the same days is a lot for the nervous system.

The cancellation of the trip opened up two solid weeks of time to make a good push with PMtz Art. The website is always a work in progress and the to-do list for upcoming events and development continues to grow faster than I can accomplish.  So whenever I get a chance to take advantage of free time to improve, oh and paint, I try to use it wisely.

With the car crash, no one was hurt and luckily my injuries aren’t anything some good sleep and coffee can’t fix. It actually spared me from having to buy new tires! The other insurance gave me more than expected for my hand-me-down great-aunt’s ford focus. I ended up with something more than an A to B vehicle, I’d call it an A to C vehicle! The same day as my ride, Feat of Clay gallery got in contact with me about a date for the upcoming feature, which I will talk about more in the letter.

Overall I’m very grateful for good fortune, the ability to shift gears and take advantage of opportunities when things change and I will never be mad about some good luck.

So what’s happening!

Starting Saturday March 1st, I will be taking pre-orders for all works in my online gallery (https://pmtzart.com/art-gallery/). This will include originals and fine art prints and the last day to order will be March 31st.The prints come in two types, Mounted canvas on Archival Matte canvas stretched over a wood frame ready to hang, and Fine Art Paper prints come on Hahnemuhle Torchonfine (sounds fancy) art paper which would look great framed. Some of the original pieces will be on display at Feat of Clay Art Gallery. If you are interested in any of the pieces on display, send me a message and we can start from there! About the upcoming gallery show. Opening night will be March 21st, 5-7pm, at Feat of Clay Art Gallery in Aztec NM. I am beyond excited and humbled to have been asked to do the feature. The feature will last a month and if you happen to be in the area, come give it a look! It’s going to be a great learning experience and hopefully this will just help keep the momentum going. My website has information about the show and there will be an official gallery announcement.

Newest work to join the PMtz Art Gallery.

Rainy Day is a painting inspired from a photo of a friend. The original had buildings at the street level in the background along with pedestrians walking. I wanted it to be just about the model.

The painting took a long time to complete. I was at my wits end and almost called it quits. I gave it one more honest day or work. If at the end of the day’s honest sessions I was still feeling the same then I was going to move on. And what do you know, she started to come together.

It was definitely a challenge for me. I don’t consider myself a portrait artist, or a painter of realism. Therefore, I feel like I was lacking some of the tools, or more the practice to make the process “easier”. Once I finally got the symmetry down and her face completed I was at home working on the jacket. I am really proud of the texture and the way her jacket moves.

The background I wanted to keep it light but give enough contrast with just enough tone and color to separate the model from it. I knew the whole time the color I wanted to add was going to be in the rain. The idea is to appear as if there are rain droplets on and running down the lens of the camera.

Overall, I am pleased with this work and happy for that day it started to come together. Rainy Day is now up on my site with all of it’s information and the description write up (https://pmtzart.com/rainy-day/). But now, it’s on to the next. I think I’m feeling a landscape.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for this month. And again, I really enjoy all the interaction! Thanks again and until next time cheers!
