Dang, I recently caught what a side profile picture of me bending over relaxed looks like. Combine that with scrolling through my photo album and seeing what I looked like 2 years ago… reality hurts. So, on that note April was filled with spring cleaning, rain catch system, garden prep, 7 pounds lost (to be continued), engine readiness reviews, seasonal onboarding, show workshops, reading, podcasts, French grammar lessons, and Russian spam bots.
This month was kind of meh with books. One was about learning to think in systems, and it spent the entire time telling you that you should do it. I’m convinced but what systems are important and how do you apply them? I guess I need to be spoon fed. The other was supposed to be about “thinking and dreaming big”. To me it was like talking to someone who tries to be too overly positive, but they do it in the wrong ways and at the wrong time. Unfortunately, the book only motivated me to hurry through it so I could move on. To be honest, both books felt like they were written by people who had read really great books on those subjects and that they wanted to summarize it in their own words.
I am continuing my conquest of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, 5 books in and it is still amazing. I did re-read and complete the Lord of the Rings trilogy but this time in Spanish (this was months worth of work). We all know the story but experiencing it in Tolkien’s writing is a pleasure. Just like the movie, once the ring is destroyed you still have 45 minutes (or in this case 150 pages) until it’s wrapped up!
Pmtzart.com is always a work in progress and if you have messaged me there recently you may have noticed that you must prove you are human now. I was receiving upwards of 300 emails a day all from Russian bots. This triggered my email to start sending everything to my spam folder and I was missing actual emails from people. Not to mention how close I was to losing my mind hearing a ding or vibrate every couple minutes. I also added a new banner and page that will have all of my upcoming shows with dates, locations, and links!
Let’s see, I was moved from the alternate list to the accepted artist list for the Hispanic Contemporary Market. So that makes another show to add to this summer’s line up. I attended the workshop with the other artists and directors. I never really thought about what it takes to put on a show for the event coordinators. Sometimes, I think they are being sticklers but then I realized they have someone (the city) breathing down their necks complaining. The show had over 60,000 attendants last year so I can understand the city needing to enforce their rules. This makes 3 shows coming up this summer, I am hoping that I will not be overextending myself. I am just happy to have options.
Here’s what we have so far:
July 4th and 5th I will have a booth showing at the Broadmoor Fine Art Festival in Colorado Springs, CO.
Then, July 26th and 27th I will be showing at the Hispanic Contemporary Market in Downtown Santa Fe, NM.
AND THEN, August 28th and 29th I will be showing in the Highlands Summer Finale in Highlands Neighborhood, Denver, CO.
So what’s happening now?
Sonoran Dreams was finished
I have a couple works in progress. One is a commission piece for a Father’s Day present. I am grateful that my “style” is appreciated enough that they are willing to trust me with this project!
Next, like my MS460 painting, this one will be a worn and abused piece of fire equipment that will be an addition to my Fire Collection. Drip Torches are really only red or silver, so I conducted a small survey to let the people cast their votes. The winner was red!
In addition, I am playing with the idea of bringing back a small merchandise page. I fell in love with a mural in Tucson, and I mean I fell in love. My heart was broken knowing that when we left all I would have is a picture on my phone. Then wandering in a random gallery, I saw a sticker the artist had made of that same mural! And now, I have a small piece of it with me. I have some stickers that are just for fun because I’m always doodling, but maybe there is someone out there who might feel like I did. I’ll put a pin in this thought.
Looking to the future,
I will be working diligently on a few pieces that have deadlines and working with others to begin the process on theirs. I will also be leaving next week for a 14 day wildfire assignment on the other side of the state, so time is precious. I want to say thank you to the folks who have been gracious enough to share their photos with me to help keep inspiring new ideas for future paintings. It’s amazing! The list of ideas is growing faster than I can create! It is like having a pile of unread books and the recommendations are still coming through! I appreciate it.
Well, that wraps up April. Thanks again for your support!
