This piece is my largest to date. I wanted to create something stunning, something that would stop you in your tracks and allow you to get lost.
One of the painting’s strongest qualities is its controlled tension between monochrome and color. The grayscale figure allows the saturated colors reflected in her sunglasses to become the painting’s visual and emotional focal point. The model feels almost photographic and timeless, while the reflected seascape supplies warmth, escapism, and a suggestion of an interior world that stays inaccessible to the viewer.
It is a glamorous portrait on the surface, but also a meditation on memory, perceptive, and the places we carry within our own gaze. The result is sophisticated, visually immediate, and highly displayable: a statement piece that rewards both viewing from across the room and closer inspection of its expressive brushwork.
