Hello!
This month has marked my official 1 year of launching my side project, PMtz Art. It has been quite a learning curve. With each new iteration I am learning so much more. I think I have all the bases covered but something (or many things) continue to teach me that I still have no idea what I am doing! But I am learning, so that means something.
November 7, 2023 was my first official post to my newly created instagram dedicated to sharing my art. It was a picture of my cat, Rick. Or, Ricky Retardo as I like to call him. That was the first OFFICIAL step for PMtz Art. Previously I would scroll through all the pictures on my phone trying to find whatever uncropped, crooked, terribly lit photos I could to share. Everyone was patient enough to awkwardly stand by as I sifted and sifted to find any photo available. If I was more organized, I would have just made a folder with all my art collections. Probably still good advice to myself. Organize.
After years of talk, doubt, excuses and encouragement, I finally built up enough courage to start sharing my work outside of my phone. I created an instagram account (@Pmtz_art) a Facebook account (PMtz Art) and learned how to make a webpage (Pmtzart.com) to share my art and journey. I can’t express how grateful, humbled, honored and lucky I feel to have my work received the way it has been. I always talk, sharing art is so personal. It is like letting someone see you naked for the first time… are they going to be impressed, or are they going to laugh?
There are tons of other artists all over the internet that have amazing social media pages, super dialed online galleries and incredible artwork. At times it’s hard not to compare what they do to what I got going on. They obviously spend a lot of time taking photos, editing videos and keeping their friends, clients, and customers updated. I do envy their commitments to extra time spent doing all of this. That being said, I DO NOT want to be an influencer. I can barely work my instagram and my website is in a continual state of development. So, that’s the reason for this email!
At the end of each month, give or take, I want to update you on what’s happening with PMtz Art. I want to share updates, upcoming sales, upcoming art shows, new projects in the works, changes to the online gallery, my thoughts or just a check in to let you know we are still chugging along. And please, I want to hear what you have been up to! Feel free to share your stories or news with me, I want to know!
With that here we go!
I am going to be participating in my first art show since I was 14 years old! It will be the 37th Salmon Ruins Winter Arts and Crafts Fair, December 7th at McGee park in Farmington NM. Currently we are scrambling to figure out what exactly we need to do to prepare! How many and how much do I bring? What do I wear? Can Rick come? I am super excited to get this first one in the books! I have plenty to learn and the only way to learn is to do it. Hopefully just like the sharing on social media this is generating momentum in the correct direction.
I have this new project coming together nicely. She is 4ft tall and 2ft wide. I am surprised how long this one has taken me. I am not in any kind of rush to complete it, but I am still surprised. Each session I work on a little section and before I know it hours have passed and I have painted inches! I am coming to a crossroads with how to finish her. There will be color, the hard part is what color. I have some ideas how to solve that, which I am pretty excited about!
That’s it for my first newsletter! Thanks for your time and letting me share a little bit with you. I’m sure these will develop and as I continue to send out more. At any point these become annoying, please send me a response telling me to “stop” or “bugger off” and I will!
Cheers,
PMtz
