Well, here we go.
March has come to an end, and we’ve moved right into spring. It’s that time of year when I receive my first sunburn and stop wearing a jacket just to get snowed on.
Friday March 28th, we had the opening night for my feature at Feat of Clay Art Gallery in Aztec, NM. Before I mention how it went, I have to say thank you to everyone who made it out and showed their support. I am so very lucky to have so many awesome people around me and part of our lives. So, thank you guys.
With that, the show was a hit! The crowd that showed up was the largest to date for the gallery. We had wine by the box, beer by the case and hugs by the arm loads. It was great to see everyone and get a chance to show what I do, explain how I do it and answer everyone’s questions.
This being my first gallery showing, it came with a steep learning curve (a common trend over the last year). There were plenty of hiccups prior to the show but I’m grateful for them. If everything had gone smoothly and according to plan, I wouldn’t have the list of questions to ask the next galleries, or the solutions. There will inevitably be more and different hiccups to arrive next time, but you never know until you do it.
So, what’s happening now?!
Doing the feature has been a great push of momentum to start bringing my art in front of people. Beginning April 4th, at 302 Artifact Gallery in Farmington NM, I will be displaying two pieces of work for their theme titled “Flower Power”. The two original works are Spring Blossoms (link) and Full Bloom (link). Because, you know…flower power!
Tomorrow (March 31) is the last day of the online sale. I will be working on processing all the orders and shipping them out ASAP. As of right now I am not sure when the next sale will happen but if you missed the window let me know and we can try to figure something out!
Newest Work
I love painting landscapes, and I love painting figures in my style. I was asking myself, “how can I combine the two?” Then, boom! It hit me.
My newest work titled “Skyline”, is one answer to that question. I have been working on her over the last month and completed her this past weekend after opening night. All the buzz and hype had me especially motivated. I was able to use my passions for both figures and landscapes to find a way to combine them, all while sticking to my style of contrast, compliments, and use or absence of color. I think she turned out gorgeous.
Skyline is 18inX24in acrylic/marker on canvas. She is in the finishing stages of drying, having hanging hardware attached and being photographed. She will be up on the website and social medias in a few days once all the finishing touches are complete.
I’m pretty excited about this! I have a few ideas already lined up as far as different models, how they will be positioned, their location on the canvas, and different landscapes to be used. This also includes incorporating my fire sceneries to be reflected. I feel the possibilities are endless. I can work with this for a while, until the next “ah-ha” inspiration strikes, or I get bored. The plan is to do a “series” from this theme. Title, to be determined.
Looking into the future,
I want to keep improving where I can. I am looking to put more of my work into the open and more consistently. I have a couple art shows planned for this upcoming year, along with more talks with other galleries. Plus, I am getting a ton of suggestions and ideas from friends, family, other artists, and supporters about how to keep expanding (fundraisers, donations, events, etc.). I am extremely grateful to everyone for their help, support, and ideas!
That being said, I’m a simple dude that wears glasses, so I can’t see everything… or anything. I really rely on and appreciate when others point out things I miss or am not seeing! Whenever I receive feedback on areas to improve on, suggestions for the website’s flow, navigation or layout (, new ideas for paintings, thoughts on how to reach people, or if it’s just to throw some positive support and a kudos, it is very much appreciated!
With that, thanks again for your time and until next month!
