What’s up guys? Got a straight to the point update this go around. No chit chat about thoughts, feelings or philosophy, only a little about the weather. Because it seems to me that the days are cooling off, mornings are brisk, the sun is setting earlier, and that we have made the turn towards fall. This means sweater weather, green chile (for us New Mexicans) and pumpkin spice.

To the point.

So, what’s the difference between a Craft fair and an Art show? Typically, craft fairs are open to all varieties of handmade and crafts. For example, handmade soaps, jellies and jams, honey, art, and the kettle corn dude. Art shows are more niche focusing on just the art category, sculpting, pottery, painting, photography and so on. My first crafts fair helped me realize I needed to have my work displayed where people were going specifically to view art. I love doing craft fairs but unfortunately my artwork has a tough time competing with a 5-dollar bag of kettle corn!

The Palisade Art Festival is a juried event, meaning a panel of judges judge your work and vote yay or nay on your participation. And I will tell you; it is extremely intimidating to share work with anyone in general, much less to be “judged” on it. So, the acceptance letter was affirmation in the positive direction. The Palisade Art Festival will be Saturday September 27th and Sunday September 28th at memorial park, Palisade Colorado. Palisade is known for its vineyards and wine, which makes me thirsty every time I think about it.

After the art show I will keep the momentum and open my online gallery up for orders. It has been 9 months since I last had it open. Starting October 1st, I will be accepting orders on prints of my original works, along with some originals. The prints can vary in size and material so be sure to reach out with any questions so we can get it right. The best place to see it all and contact me is through my website. The sale will end October 31st (Halloween) at midnight.

Vivid is defined as producing powerful feelings or strong mental images. Vivid is also used to describe the intensity of color. It felt appropriate with the piece having the strong contrasts between the black and white, then with the vivid reflection in her sunglasses.

This work took 4 months to create. I started the project before the beginning of fire season and found time when I had available to keep adding layers. This is piece number 4 in the “Reflection” theme. I wanted this piece to be framed a step back from the other works in the collection. This work displays more of the model and has a smaller, but not less important, surface area of color. The reflection creates balance in the picture by using the “vivid” colors to offset the intense black and white.

This work is meant to be given space and as we get closer, our eyes begin to search for detail instead of seeing the image as a whole. This piece will be best in an open setting.

Well that’s about all I got to say about that (Private Gump voice). Thank you for sharing your time and as always, I appreciate the feedback and responses!
