Often firing operations are conducted at night due to the low fire intensity and fire effects. Night operations always make for epic moments.
This was my first fire painting, and it was based on a fire operation we conducted near Dolores, Colorado. The crew rolled up at nightfall and immediately went to work. The background of this painting was created using a palette knife. I wanted to show his firing pattern by using the trail he left behind and the fire leaving his drip torch. This gives the painting a sense of now.
A copy of this painting is displayed in my old crew’s fire office. I still enjoy seeing all the detail in the fire, the trees and the sky. It all came together nicely.
