Happy September newsletter
September was filled with closing out fires on the forest, prepping for the 5th Annual Palisade Mountain Arts Festival, attending the 5th Annual Palisade Arts Festival, book reading, sweater weather, coffee, beer and endless house chores.
One of the good books I finished this month was about dopamine and its effects (for good and bad) on our perceptions of the world, and how we operate/ make decisions within it. Long story short, we are all very different in how we receive, process and act on the information we get. It gave me a whole list of new excuses for not taking the trash out! But really, it was insightful to become aware of patterns that I have along with recognizing different ones in others. I think just becoming aware can help us with patience. Some people are always looking ahead and never in the present; some are looking behind and never ahead. Some people only see big pictures minus details, and others see the details without the big picture. So overall, my thought is we need it all to be able to understand the whole picture.
So, recap of the Art show.
As you guys know I’m still in the learning curve of the art game. You can plan, you can get great advice but, in the end, you have to just start doing it and keep taking notes of what worked and improvements for next time. As far as the art show went, for me, it was a major success. Got tons of practice deciding inventory, transporting, setting up, dealing with weather and refining all the other logistics of shows. It was great to display my work, talk about it, and eventually put into the homes of those who appreciated it. I can’t begin to say how grateful and humbled I am to have had as many people as I did appreciate it. Talk about dopamine and motivation.
It was awesome to talk with the other artists and promoters. There is a ton of information to be shared, and almost all of them are willing to share it. I got a chance to see other artists’ styles, hear their inspiration, how they set up their booths, what shows they try to hit and the ones they try to avoid. I got to talk to the ones who have been a full-time artist for the last 25 years and the ones who took the leap by quitting their job 2 weeks ago. Looking ahead, I have a good list of shows I plan on applying for with a goal of 3 shows per year. I think that is realistic, for now.
So what’s happening now?
I have a couple ideas for some upcoming pieces. My Visuals collection was a major hit at the art show. It is a very unique concept, and I just need to keep making sure my execution is there. I have a couple ideas in mind, but up next will be doing a throwback to my wildland fire landscape roots. This is of course once I get my studio back into creation mode versus art show prep mode.
Starting tomorrow October 1, my online Gallery will be open to orders for a limited time (closing October 31st). This will include access to my original works and custom prints. Depending on your needs, I offer both canvas and paper prints that are scalable in size to help us find the right fit for you or for that holiday gift to others. For example, we can take a 2Ft x 4Ft original painting and shrink down to a 10in x 20in canvas or paper print.
More information here (info).
So that wraps up this month’s newsletter. If you have any questions, just hit me up! I’d love to tell you about any of the pieces, the process, and answer any questions! Thanks for taking the time to read it and again I always look forward to the feedback I received from everybody. Also, if you have any good book suggestions send them my way!
