With the end of fire season, we are all look forward to resting our bodies, resetting our minds, and discovering who we are again outside of work. The job demands a lot of planning, hypotheticals, what ifs and then what’s, timetables, measurables, and laying awake with internal chatter wondering if we made the right call. Very analytical and left brain dominated.

Painting this work is way to help rebalance the hemispheres by concentrating on shapes, colors, and being present. Many times, there is no escaping the haze of smoke, you do your best to find fresh air when you are able. Your line of sight is limited and when you are “smoked out” it is an isolating feeling. This is a familiar sight and part of the job. I have been wanting to paint this piece for a while, and I am glad I finally got the chance.
